Google Health App: What Enhancements Are Still Needed?
In late May, Google unveiled a roadmap detailing the forthcoming enhancements for the Google Health app following its recent redesign. With four updates rolled out since then, the company has identified several key focus areas that still require attention.
Key Areas for Improvement
According to Google, the roadmap includes eight primary areas, primarily categorized under Bug Fixes and Improvements. Here's what remains on the agenda:
Exercise Tracking
While some improvements have been made, Google must enhance the detection capabilities of the Fitbit Air together with activity tracking for a broader range of exercises. Currently, it recognizes several activities, including:
- Walk
- Run
- Bike
- Sports
- Elliptical
- Rowing machine
- Stationary bike
The following issues have been addressed:

Nutrition and Calorie Tracking
In the realm of Nutrition and Calorie Tracking, Google acknowledges the need to enhance goal-setting and progress tracking for users with specific dietary patterns.

Enhancements for Google Health Coach
Improvements are still required for Google Health Coach, where only two minor updates have been completed:

A range of additional enhancements is still pending:

- Adjust messages based on user activity relevance to cut down excessive notifications.
Ask Coach Features
- Improved interpretation of user intent prior to responses.
- Less emphasis on outdated or irrelevant information.
- Support for logging adjustments through Ask Coach.
- Add capability to log core body temperature.
- Include nutritional details like fat type and sodium in logged food items.
Fitness Plans Upgrades
User feedback has prompted a revision of fitness plans. While the current flexible weekly targets have been useful, it's clear that a demand for more structured schedules exists. Future iterations will aim to blend flexibility with structured planning.
Completed Enhancements
Interestingly, four areas have concluded their updates:
Daily Activity
- [DONE] Added hourly step goal charts in both the Today and Health tabs.
Sleep Tracking
